Mirapoint Email System

The Suffolk University email system is changing. Between December 11 and January 16, more than 200 users tested the new Mirapoint system. Rigorous testing allowed us to identify and correct issues prior to launch.

In order to maintain the integrity of the data being moved from the current system to the new environment, some downtime will be necessary. Your Suffolk email will not be available from 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, until approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 21.

Your current email will be visible on the new server beginning Sunday morning,. If you find that any of your email is missing, please check the new folder in your mail called <Junk Mail> as some messages may appear here.

If you elect to use Webmail to read your email, no configuration changes will be required. If you choose to use an email client, such as Outlook or Netscape, you will need to make a minor configuration change. We have created documents and video tutorials to help aid you in this process.

Support

Information Services Support Center, is on call now to handle any problems you may encounter. Currently, the center supports email and network connectivity issues. In the future, it will also include support for university applications, such as Blackboard and Portal, and will also act as a central call in center for any type of technology help.

Please call (617) 557- 2000 if you find you need assistance.

Key Improvements

Access

If you elect to use Webmail, the new system will give you much better access to your Suffolk email from on or off campus.

If you use another client application, you won’t have access to many of the benefits of the new system,

We’ve provided complete, easy-to-follow instructions to configure whichever client software you decide to use:

If you use the recommended Webmail client, you’ll find a number of enhancements, including an improved, more responsive—and significantly faster—interface, similar to Outlook.

Control

With Webmail, you’ll also have more control of your email, so you can set up your own vacation notices and auto-replies. And easily customizable spam filters will allow you to manage junk mail more effectively.

Calendar function

The sophisticated shared calendar function available in Webmail gives you access from on or off campus. It will allow faculty, administrators and staff to access their departmental and personal calendars through the new email system

You’ll be able to

  • Set up meetings
  • Accept or decline meeting requests from others
  • Book rooms for meetings
  • Email meeting participants
  • Share your calendar with other users
  • View colleagues free time to see when they might be available for a meeting

You’ll be able to set up your calendar to allow others to see when you’re busy, or when you’re not available. And you can choose who, if anybody, to see the details of your appointments.
