Pre College Programs

Pre College Summer 2009

What is Pre-College?

It’s a fun way for high school students to study art and design at the college-level. In addition to the in-class studio experience, you’ll take field trips to museums and visit the studios of practicing artists and designers around the Boston area. Guest lecturers will discuss a range of topics from art history to photography to current art and design trends.

Why should I take it?

To expand your visual vocabulary…
You’ll learn the fundamental concepts of visual organization and the elements of design.

To feel what it’s like to be part of a community of artists…
Analyze and discuss your work with your peers and participate in the exchange of ideas among artists and designers.

To develop a portfolio for college admission…
If you plan to study art and design in college, you’ll need a portfolio to get in the door. In the Pre-college Program you’ll learn how to prepare and present a portfolio of your strongest work. And if you’re going into your senior year or you’ve just graduated and are planning to come to Suffolk to study art and design, you can get the Admission portfolio requirement waived if you’re successful in our Pre-College program.

Who can participate?

If you are a student who will be a sophomore, junior, senior or entering college freshman, you are welcome to participate. With small class sizes, you’ll receive lots of individual attention.

When does it happen?

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
July 7 - August 6, 2009 from 10am-3:30pm (half-hour lunch break)
