Madrid, and all large cities in Spain have excellent public transportation. Weekly and monthly passes are available for buses, subways and commuter trains.

• Monthly passes allow for unlimited travel within a determined area.
• Applications for this pass are available at the “estancos”.
• Special ten-ride subway and bus tickets (“Metro bus”) are bought in subway stations, at some tobacco shops and E.M.T. booths.

By air

• Students arriving on Iberia, American Airlines, British Airways should be aware that these flights are handled at the new Terminal 4, which is much further away from the rest of Barajas Airport terminals (1,2,and 3) and will require additional commute time.
• Students should book a flight back home well in advance.
• Shortly after late March, most discount and tourist seats are booked for the whole summer.

Trains

The railway network (RENFE) connects Madrid with all the cities in Spain.

• The AVE (High Speed Train) has reduced traveling time to Madrid from Seville to two and a half hours.
• Purchasing round trip train tickets can entitle you to a 10%- 20% discount on many trains; the best way to find out is through contacting RENFE’s web page (http://www.renfe.es/)

Bus transportation

Madrid is well-connected with other towns and cities, and rates are equivalent in cost to a second-class rail ticket. Where choice is available, check schedules and prices since buses are often faster than trains. (www.auto-res.net, www.alsa.es, www.enatcar.com, www.lasepulvedana.es )
