• Student Life & Learning

Suffolk has always been about creating possibilities: about helping young people expand their horizons, magnify their skills, build their self-confidence, and prepare to succeed in the working world. Today, however, for more and more American families, the price of higher education has turned from a worthwhile burden into an intolerable weight of life-distorting debt.

Many prospective students are discouraged before they even apply; others find themselves forced to drop out in the middle of their education. The stark fact is that the surging need for financial assistance is badly outstripping our resources—and threatening Suffolk’s commitment to serving students outside the circle of affluence.

Our challenge now: to make a dramatic new investment in our financial aid endowment and in the quality of the student experience, to ensure that Suffolk can offer tomorrow’s students the same access to excellence that we provided to so many in the past.

Campaign Goal: Student Life & Learning

For Student Life & Learning, we are seeking $26 million. Our priorities in this area are:

  • Expand Educational Opportunity
  • Enhance the Suffolk Experience

Expand Educational Opportunity

Generations of alumni remember Suffolk University as the critical springboard to their future—the institution that equipped them to achieve once-unimaginable dreams. True to our founding vision, the Campaign will help ensure that Suffolk remains accessible to the most promising young minds—regardless of their background or their ability to pay. Gifts to Centennial Scholarships or other programs will fund these vital channels of student financial assistance:

  • Undergraduate Need-Based Scholarships
  • Undergraduate Merit-Based Scholarships
  • Graduate Fellowships
  • Law School Scholarships
  • President’s Incentive Loan Program
  • Loan Repayment Assistance Program (for law graduates pursuing public interest careers)

Enhance the Suffolk Experience

As a complement to our challenging coursework, rich “co-curricular” experiences help students develop the skills, experience, initiative, and sense of responsibility to lead their communities and their professions. The Campaign will provide increased annual operating funds to promote student and faculty growth and leadership development:

  • Teaching Awards
  • Student Leadership Awards
  • Trial Team Competition Support
  • Library Acquisition Support
  • Student Academic Support
  • Curriculum Support
  • Law School Clinical Programs
