Earn a Professional Masters Degree in Political Science or International Relations

Build a career working for what you believe in. You can accomplish your goal in one year of intensive full-time or two years part-time study.

Master of Science in Political Science (MSPS)

You can be doing what you believe in by earning a master’s degree from Suffolk with an intensive year of full-time study or two years of part-time study. See details below.

For a program brochure and answers to your questions, get in touch with the program director, Professor Kenneth Cosgrove: grad.government@suffolk.edu.  Financial Aid is available for full- or part-time students in either program.

Professional Politics

Do you love politics?  Make it your career!  MSPS alumni are working today as campaign managers, lobbyists, legislative aides, and interest group staff.  Activism is great; paid activism is better.  In our Professional Politics program:

  • You will get an intensive, hands-on education in essential political skills like fundraising, poll-taking, and campaign management.
  • You will also learn what political science has discovered about why people vote as they do, why interest groups succeed or die, and how to influence Congress and state legislatures.
  • You will have the option of a political internship in a campaign, legislative office, or advocacy office, or consulting firm, to learn about the real world of politics and show your skills to potential employers.
  • Our program combines a solid theoretical understanding of political science with hands-on study of practical applications to help you jump-start your political career.

International Relations

Our new international relations track has the same professional focus as our successful professional politics track.  Our International Relations program will prepare you for careers in:

  • Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs)
  • Interest groups concerned with foreign policy
  • International organizations
  • Human rights groups
  • Research institutes
  • Public & private development aid organizations
  • Corporate research & government affairs offices
  • International trade firms
  • Labor unions concerned with cross-border issues
  • Diplomatic service (this is very competitive in US)

Part time study available

It’s a real challenge to earn a degree while holding down a job. At Suffolk, we’ll work with you to make it possible. We offer all of your required courses in the evening — normally at 5:30. Our faculty is available to meet with you during evening office hours or by appointment. And we make sure there are enough electives to keep you moving toward your degree. You can switch freely between part-time and full-time admission as your needs change. Financial aid is available for part-time students who are enrolled in at least two courses, and most part-time students finish in two years.
