New courses on post-basic education with the World Bank Institute (WBI)

Dr. L. Renée Dankerlin, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Government will be co-leading in 2008 and the coming years with Jonathan Haughton, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, a series of courses on post-basic education with the World Bank Institute (WBI). Professor Dankerlin, whose work in international development led to this collaboration, received notification from the World Bank last month of this series of global education courses of which a significant number will be delivered for the first time, beginning in 2008, by Suffolk’s Government and Economics Departments.

The planned courses on education and competitiveness not only will help those working in low and middle-income countries, but also will enable Suffolk faculty staff and students to integrate theory with practice in international development more closely, through courses focused on innovations in education, specifically innovations in the education of the majority of the workforce; education in governance and international development (e.g., higher education in political science/international relations); and the education of private and public sector actors in education finance/policy. These courses will lead to a series of other learning events and publications with WBI.
