Guide to Residence Life Handbook

Welcome!

I am sure that you will have many wonderful experiences during your time at Suffolk.  In the residence areas, you have the opportunity to live with people from around the world. Some of those people will be roommates, study buddies, teammates, and lifelong friends.  Please take advantage of this environment to learn about people – and to learn about yourself!

It is our goal to provide you with a community environment that is safe and secure, fosters academic and intellectual achievement, supports personal growth and development and encourages community living and appreciation of diversity.

To that end, we expect each member of the community to respect themselves and others. Without respect, our community will not thrive. This respect will come in many forms including, observance of quiet hours, proper treatment of people and property, and participation in activities.

Residence Life & Summer Programs is a complement to the academic aspect of the University. It is the responsibility of each student to contribute to the learning environment through adherence to policies and respect for fellow students. These guidelines are based on respect for all residents and the mission and goals of the University and the Department of Residence Life & Summer Programs, as well as the fundamental rights and responsibilities of community living. The quality of your residence life experience will be the direct result of your willingness to respect and understand fellow students and your commitment to this community. All members of the community should be mindful that living in a residence area is not a right, but rather a privilege, and is seriously jeopardized by violations of University policy.

All communities have established policies and guidelines. A successful community is one in which the policies and guidelines are observed and enforced for the safety and comfort of all.

We are glad that you have chosen to live in campus housing.  We are happy to have you and look forward to a successful and exciting year!
