It is not recommended that you bring a car with you while living in the City of Boston. It is generally expensive and inconvenient. Boston’s subway system, the “T” (MBTA) Mass Bay Transportation Authority, is the first in the country and very easy to learn. The extensive city bus system will take you just about anywhere you want to go.
Purchasing a monthly transportation pass (T pass) saves you money and time. There is a T pass program here at Suffolk where you pay a flat rate at the beginning of the semester, and you pick up your pass at the start of each month. For more information, call the Student Activities Office at (617) 573-8320. Or visit their website at the Student Activites Commuter Student Programs.

Parking spaces are rare in the city limits and parking regulations are strictly enforced. We recommend you pay attention to towing signs, street cleaning, meters, residential parking and special permits. Many neighborhoods provide permit-parking stickers to their residents however this does not guarantee a parking space. In the outskirts of Boston parking complexes may include parking with the apartment. Many high-rise apartments offer assigned parking for an additional fee. Neighborhood parking garages are extremely expensive, and there is typically a waiting list for space. Be aware that rates are always subject to change. Suffolk University does not currently own, operate or provide parking to students. All garages are independent of Suffolk University.
Some local garages offer discounted parking for Suffolk students. Day students can take advantage of a special parking rate at Laz Parking on Province Street behind the Parker House. Evening students can take advantage of special parking rates at two different garages: the Charles River Plaza Garage (entrance located underneath the Holiday Inn on Cambridge Street) and the Center Plaza Garage (on Cambridge Street opposite City Hall Plaza). The specific rules for qualifying for parking discounts vary with each garage. A list of parking garages is available in the Office of Student Activities.
