Heather Cox

Taking on the Real World

Natural Leader

Heather Cox, captain of the women’s volleyball team at Suffolk University, is making a name for herself on and off the court, balancing leadership abilities and team work.

“I love being part of the volleyball team because we have great teamwork and chemistry,” says Cox.  “We’re all best friends who really get along with one another.”

At 5-foot-4, Cox is one of the shortest members on the squad.  However, when you measure her heart, dedication, and competitive spirit, she is truly a giant among her peers.

“Heather has grown into her leadership role very nicely,” said Suffolk head volleyball coach Jim Feeley.  “She is respectful toward her teammates, opponents, coaches. and referees, and she has a positive influence on others.  She is a good all-around player and a nice person who leads by example.”

Active Participant

When she is not competing for the Rams, Cox is assisting other Suffolk athletes in her role as president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, a national organization that fights for the rights of student-athletes at the collegiate level.  The organization also encourages community service, which Cox and her fellow student-have taken to heart.

Cox also has been an Orientation Leader and a Conference Assistant. In addition, she has demonstrated her skills as an actress/singer/dancer through the Performing Arts Department and in a number of Suffolk University Hispanic Association variety shows.

“I like being involved, and Suffolk offers a lot of cultural activities,” says Cox.  “College is like anything else: You get out of it, what you put into it.”

Continual Growth

Cox, who comes from a loving and supportive family in the small town of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, has made a smooth transition to the big city.  She is enamored of Boston and how accessible it is to everything.  A criminology and law major, she is an outstanding student who aspires to becoming a lawyer one day.

Right now, however, she is simply enjoying the newest chapter in her young life.

“Suffolk has helped me grow as an overall person,” says Cox.  “It’s a place that puts you in the real world and allows you to get out and take on challenges of your own.
